Well worth it imho, though I hate to reward the chutzpah of the plagiarist.Crossword Solver is a useful tool to solve crossword puzzles. Anyway, for Shortyz fans who are searching hopelessly for a xwd app that is as good (there are none) and won't hurt the eyes, for a buck you can roll back to the good old days. For those who like to surf or play in bed with a snoozing spouse, it could also lead to divorce That's one reason why I've always stuck with Android tablets and never been tempted by the iPad. I don't know what Google is thinking, but their "Materials" theme should be renamed "Migraine" - it is a complete loser and apps that don't offer a "reverse video" mode are going to lose a chunk of their user base.įor the light-sensitive among us, the "Migraine " (read iPad) theme is literally painful, causing eye pain and headache. The new looknfeel is ghastly the screen could serve as a task light! If you turn the brightness down to a bearable level, then the lack of contrast renders the text unreadable. It has a few bugs - crashes if you scroll through more than N puz files in the archive, and I suspect N might be 512 - but for me it's worth putting up with the bugs to have my old comfortable Shortyz back. For those Shortyz fans who are unable to tolerate the screamingly bright "improved" Google-driven theme (talk about fixing what ain't broken!), for a buck you can get your old Shortyz back. But ya know what - it's an older version with the old looknfeel. Normally I'd not go near such a shameless plagiarist. ![]() No kidding, someone's remarketing Shortyz under a different name and charging a buck for it. ![]() UPDATE: some unscrupulous person is marketing an app called "Newspaper Crosswords" - which is really Shortyz. I post here because I'm curious to know whether other users love the new look, or if anyone else is (like me) weeping and wailing and shopping around for a new xwd app for my tablet. I've written to Kebernet to beg and plead for a Settings option to revert to the good ol' reverse-video theme which was so easy on the eyes. But the new, glaringly bright "skin" makes it unusable for me. I have test-driven other xwd apps and really there is no competition as far as organisation and layout, especially the puzzle selection, download and cataloguing which are superb. The in-app keyboard now seems very faint and hard to read (I wonder why it's all lower case, too, when the xwd puzzle fill-ins are conventionally uppercase). ![]() Am I the only faithful Shortyz fan who finds this hard on the eyes - it literally gives me a headache after about 5 minutes. The looknfeel has changed from restful, high-contrast white on black to low-contrast, glaring black on white/gray. Actually it's awesome! But the most recent update (Nov 2014) imho has broken the UI. I have been enjoying Shortyz for a couple of years - agree it *was* the best free xwd app, maybe even the best xwd app free or paid.
